How does the insurance claim process work?

After you’ve submitted your claim to your insurance company, a claims adjuster will usually be assigned to your claim to investigate. You should receive a phone call or letter from the adjuster introducing him or herself and informing you of the general process. The adjuster will evaluate the type and extent of damage that resulted from the accident by coming out  to take a look at the damage to your vehicle and comes up with an estimate of what it will take to restore it (or replace it, if it's totaled).

Damages: The insurance company is responsible to pay for the reasonable cost of repairs to your vehicle.

Remember that the claims adjuster initially only writes for visible damage.  There may be more damage than can be seen (see FAQ "What is a supplement?")  If your vehicle is determined by the adjuster to be repairable you will then have to choose an auto body shop to repair it.  They may recommend you use a "preferred shop" (See FAQ "What is Steering?").  You have the right to choose the shop you prefer.  Guaranty Auto is not a "preferred shop" but strongly recommends you choose a MA Certified Repair Shop (a MA "RS Number" should be displayed at a certified shop).

Once the shop is chosen, the repairs begin and a supplement may be necessary.  Guaranty Auto works for you but works with your insurance company to determine what, if any, other damage is in need of repair.  We do not "cost more" than a preferred shop.  You pay only your deductible if applicable and any betterments as written by your insurance company.

For insurance claims, Guaranty Auto requires all customers to sign a "Direction of Payment" (or "DTP" as it's known).  This allows the insurance company to pay us directly and for us to allow the release of your vehicle quicker as we know that the check is coming from the insurance company.  All deductibles and betterments must be paid prior to release.

For non-insurance auto body or collision repairs, payment in full is due prior to release of the vehicle.
